Helping your child's learning at home

Class Talks

At the beginning of every academic year, parents are invited into school to meet the class teachers in their child's year group and to share important information on how to access our systems to help support learning at home e.g. the Virtual Classroom on our Learning Platform, DB Primary; Mathletics and Bug Club websites.

Parent Consultations and Structured Conversations

We are currently developing a more effective process for sharing information with parents about their child's progress at school. We will be providing opportunities for parents to spend quality time with the classteacher to discuss progress and how we can further develop partnerships and communication. Some of the meetings will be centred around developing structured conversations over 30-40 mins rather than the usual 10 min time-slots previously allocated at parents' evenings. There will be two parent consultations each year, the first in November and the second in April.

Mid-year Annual Report

This report is designed to give parents important information during the academic year about the progress of their child. The report will be published between the two Parent Consultation sessions and will describe current behaviours' for learning; how well pupils are doing in their curriculum subjects and whether or not they are on track to attain Age-Related Expectations (ARE) in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science. This information will support the learning process and give enough time to act on and work towards learning targets identified in the report.

End of Year & Transition

At the end of each year, parents will receive their child's teacher assessment of their attainment in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science.

In the second half of the summer term, we will begin the process of transition i.e. supporting parents and pupils in preparing expectations for the next academic year.

For pupils in Reception, this will be preparing for transition to Year 1 and the National Curriculum. For pupils in Year 6, our programme turns to preparing for life in Secondary School.
