Our Attendance
At Newbury Park Primary School, we believe that regular and punctual attendance is essential for our children to achieve the best possible life outcomes. We want every child to become the best version of themselves—academically, socially, and morally—as they grow into the next generation of our community. Good school attendance is the foundation for this success.
Leave of Absence
Any request to take your child out of school during term time must be made in advance using a Leave of Absence form, which is available from the School Office.
Please note that we are unable to authorise absences for holidays.
The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013, which came into effect on 1 September 2013, state that Headteachers may only grant leave of absence during term time in exceptional circumstances. The Governors of Newbury Park Primary School fully support this legislation.
Family Holidays
We strongly encourage families to demonstrate their commitment to their child’s education by avoiding holidays during term time. While we recognise that holidays may sometimes be cheaper during the school term, any absence from school results in missed learning, which can have a negative impact on a child’s progress.
There are 190 statutory school days in each academic year, providing ample opportunity for families to plan holidays outside of term time.
We expect all children at Newbury Park Primary School to achieve an attendance rate of at least 97% each academic year. We understand that there may be exceptional circumstances, such as illness, which occasionally prevent children from attending school.
At Newbury Park Primary School, we work closely with families to listen, understand, and provide support when children are unable to attend. However, we do not accept persistent poor attendance and will always take a proactive approach to supporting families to improve attendance and ensure children return to the classroom as quickly as possible.
