History At Newbury Park

Our History lead is Mrs. T. Edwards

At Newbury Park, History is a vibrant subject that allows pupils to explore the past and understand how it shapes the present and future. Our curriculum covers topics ranging from ancient civilisations to modern history, helping pupils make connections between different periods and cultures. Through storytelling, research, and critical thinking, pupils develop a strong sense of inquiry, enabling them to ask questions, analyse evidence, and reflect on historical events. By visiting historical sites, engaging in hands-on projects, and participating in discussions, pupils are inspired to develop a lifelong love of history and a deeper understanding of the world.

Local History Week Here at Newbury Park

Local History Week at NPPS was an exciting opportunity for pupils across all year groups to explore the rich history of Newbury Park. From Nursery to Year 6, each class delved into different aspects of our local area, discovering how our community has evolved over time.

Nursery and Reception explored the past and present of Newbury Park through photos and drawings, comparing old and modern images of the area. Year 1 and Year 2 examined maps, identifying changes in landmarks and features over the years. Year 3 and Year 4 focused on the history of our school itself—Year 3 investigated architectural changes, while Year 4 explored key historical events. A highlight for Year 4 was a special visit from Mrs. Linton, who shared her firsthand knowledge of the school’s history.

In Years 5 and 6, pupils turned their attention to Newbury Park Station. Year 5 explored how its architecture has changed, while Year 6 examined its impact on local transport and community development.

Throughout the week, pupils engaged in creative projects, insightful discussions, and hands-on activities that deepened their understanding of how Newbury Park has grown and changed. It was wonderful to see them reflecting on and connecting with their local history—we are so proud of their enthusiasm and curiosity!

Step Back in Time for Victorian Day at Newbry Park!

On Wednesday 18th June 2025, our school was transformed as pupils and staff stepped back in time to experience life in the Victorian era!

Victorian Day gave our children the chance to immerse themselves in history — dressing in traditional Victorian clothing, taking part in old-fashioned classroom lessons, and discovering what school life was like over 100 years ago. From handwriting to learning about strict Victorian rules, it was a fun and educational day enjoyed by all.

To end the day, we came together for a whole-school Victorian-style picnic. Sitting outside in our costumes, sharing food and laughter, really brought a sense of community and celebration to the day.
